What I Learned While Travel Blogging + Mistakes I Made!

The Lessons Learned While Travel Blogging + Mistakes I Made 🤦‍♀️

Did you know I’m A Travel Blogger: in fact, I run multiple blogs while traveling across different niches. But, it might shock you to hear me say “I Don’t work while traveling as a travel blogger” — THIS is one of my BIGGEST Tips for Travel Bloggers (technically ANY TYPE of Bloggers that think it’s glamorous, productive, or much less profitable to BLOG while traveling)!

This doesn’t mean abandoning your blog completely — it means giving yourself permission not to actively write, edit, or post content while you’re on a trip. Instead, immerse yourself in the experience.

Let the adventure unfold naturally, and save the storytelling for later. By prioritizing the travel experience over the pressure to “work,” you allow yourself to be fully present — and ironically, this often results in better content = how successful bloggers are born!

Why Mindset Matters When You’re Taking Time Away:

✨ Authenticity

When you’re not constantly chasing the perfect photo or writing captions in your head, you’re more likely to have genuine reactions. And trust me — those real moments connect way more deeply with your audience.

🧘 Mental Break

Traveling is exciting but can also be exhausting. Giving yourself a break from “content mode” helps prevent burnout, especially if you’re on the road for long periods.

📸 Better Content

Some of the best blog posts and photos come from spontaneous, unplanned moments — not overly curated ones. Let your experiences breathe.

But Let’s Be Real: Work Life Balance is the BEST Idea!

💯 Some Work Still Happens

Even if you’re not posting in real time, you’ll probably still snap photos, shoot videos, jot down notes, or map out your itinerary. That’s okay! Just don’t feel pressure to do it all right then and there.

💯 Balance is Key

Find your personal rhythm. It’s a balance between soaking in the moment and collecting content that you can use later. Create after you’ve experienced.

When I leave “home” — whether it’s for a foreign vacation or a van trip — I notice one of two things happens:
Either I don’t get much done, or I get sucked into working and forget to enjoy myself. I never want to look back and feel like I spent more time on my laptop than living the moment. Sometimes, I just want to take photos and videos for me — not with the pressure to immediately write, edit, or post.

Unless it’s an urgent deadline… don’t stress about it while traveling.

A Few More Lessons I’ve Learned While Working On The Road:

  • Make the most of every moment — seriously, they go by fast.
  • Snap the random stuff — menus, funny signs, quiet streets, little finds. These make the best memories later.
  • Know what works for YOU — I don’t blog at the airport or work well in coffee shops. It’s just not my thing.
  • I’m introverted — I need quiet space to create. Public spaces and too much noise totally drain me.

Tips From My Experience As A Nomadic Entrepreneur:

🎥 Always be capturing, not creating

I don’t do both at once. I never post while I’m in the moment. It takes me out of the experience and ruins it. I hate sitting there making stories when I could just live the story.

📋 Take notes, but don’t blog

Don’t try to write full posts or obsess about captions. Just jot things down to remember later.

📱 Save the social sharing for later

I’m strategic when I post — I want to tag the right brands, places, people, and be thoughtful. That doesn’t happen in the middle of the moment.

📍Keep track of…

  • Locations
  • Menus
  • Hashtags
  • Instagram handles
  • Local tips

Bonus Travel Blogging Tips To Remember:

  • Don’t let drama from home ruin your trip (especially 💩 you can’t control)
  • Don’t sleep in or stay up late — you’ll feel groggy and miss the magic of the morning.
  • Move your body — walk, stretch, or hit the gym when you can!

Final Thoughts…

Every trip teaches me something new — not just about the places I go, but about how I work, live, and create best. So if you’re a travel blogger, remember:

✨ Experience first. Create second.
✨ Capture, don’t curate.
✨ Do what works for you — not just what works for others.
