What Blogging Really Is (And Why Most Beginners Quit Too Early)

Let’s talk about what blogging is — and why most people quit too early.

If you’ve been thinking about starting a blog for months… maybe years… or maybe you already have one and you’re stuck and not sure what to do next — this blog post + video is for you.

Before anything else, I want you to think this in your head:

I am a blogger.

Even if you haven’t hit publish yet.

If someone asked you what you do, you’d say:

“I blog. I’m a blogger.”

You need to think: I am a bossy, successful blogger.

That’s the mindset I want you to have by the end of this.

Welcome to Day 1 of the 7-Day Blogging Challenge

By the end of this week, you’re going to have:

  • Your very first blog live
  • Your first post published
  • A clear direction — even if you’re starting from zero

If you miss any episodes, there’s a full playlist HERE!

Now let’s get into what blogging really is.

Blogging Is Not About Going Viral

Blogging isn’t about going viral.

It’s about building digital assets that compound over time.

Most beginners quit because they expect:

  • Instant gratification
  • Fast traffic
  • Quick money

But blogging is more like planting a garden.

You plant the seed.
You water it.
You nurture it.
And over time — it grows.

That’s how blogging works.

Definition of Blogging

Here’s the technical definition:

Blogging is the act of regularly creating, managing, and publishing content — typically articles (blog posts), photos, or even videos (vlogging)— on a website in a conversational format, usually displayed in reverse chronological order.

It can be:

  • A digital journal
  • A creative outlet for personal expression
  • Or a strategic business tool to drive engagement, share news, and build audiences.

But let me break that down in simpler terms.

Your Blog Is Your Online Business Card

Think about when someone gives you their website.

What do you do?

You go look at it.

You check out:

  • What they do
  • What they offer
  • What they’re about

Your website is:

  • Your resume
  • Your storefront
  • Your profile
  • Your home online

And your blog?

Your blog is the living, breathing part of your website.

It’s the talking part.

Blog Posts Are Digital Assets

Each blog post you publish becomes a piece of digital real estate you own.

You can:

  • Update it
  • Improve it
  • Optimize it
  • Monetize it

Over time, those posts stack up.

That’s why consistency matters more than perfection — whether that’s every day or every week or every couple of weeks, or once a month, whatever your strategy is…

Perfection is the enemy of done.

If you wait until something is perfect, you’ll never publish.
But if you publish, you have something to look at and can improve it later.

Every Blog Is a Website (But Not Every Website Is a Blog)

Not every website has a blog.

But every blog lives on a website.

Posting on social media alone isn’t blogging — that’s microblogging.

A blog is something you own.
It lives on your domain.
It’s your platform.

That’s power.

Treat Your Blog Like a Business

Your blog represents you online.

When someone visits, they’re forming an opinion instantly:

  • Does this look professional?
  • Is this clear?
  • Do I understand what they do?

The colors, fonts, themes, topics — they all matter.

Each of my blogs has:

  • Its own branding
  • Its own niche
  • Its own focus

For example, people recognize:

  • My RV Blog is all about RV Life @RVersity
  • My Dog Blog is all about my dogs @BirdiesDoghouse
  • My Reselling Blog is about Reselling @AmbayExchange

So that’s all that I’m talking about on each of those blogs. BUT… When people come to my personal website, they’re, they see me as a person, but then they can go and see all my little niche blogs and businesses — vice versa, when people go to my multiple niche blogs, they end up finding some of my other blogs and figuring out who I am.

And each blog is structured like a business.

Because that’s what blogs are.

Mini businesses.

Digital assets.

Long-term plays.

The Mindset Shift You Need Today

Before you do anything else in this challenge, I want you to look in the mirror and say:

I am a blogger.

Even if you haven’t published yet.

When someone asks what you do?

Say:

I blog. I’m a Blogger!”

You have to get in that mindset and say, I’m a blogger. I’m gonna have a successful blog. Because identity comes before results.

What’s Coming in Day 2

Tomorrow, I’m teaching you exactly what to blog about — so you never have to second-guess yourself again.

If you haven’t already:

And remember:

If we haven’t officially met — I’m Blogging Brandi.

And I’m a blogger.

And so are you!
